Tangshan: Hand-Foot-Mouth Outbreak
ANCHOR: Recently Hand-foot-mouth disease or HFMD, has been widely spreading in Tangshan and surrounding rural areas. Tangshan Maternal and Child Health Care hospital is overcrowded now, but no specific numbers on the death toll are being released. STORY: Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the Tangshan Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital cannot accommodate all patients. As a result, many have been redirected to other hospitals in the city, which isn’t a good thing. That’s because the children’s hospital has a special until to deal with HFMD that other hospitals don’t have. At first CCP officials tried to cover up the news, but eventually admitted that there were several thousand cases and more than 20 deaths. Last Thursday the Jilin Province Health Bureau reported that almost 4200 cases of HFMD were found in the province, with three deaths. Kindergartens in the city of Jilin are all closed for three weeks.
