When a new baby is expected in the family, the would-be parents imagine their little one calling them MOM and DAD. Just the feeling gives them immense happiness. After a few months the baby takes the first glimpse of its parents and the world. The baby does not know any thing but the new parents know that this little angle will call them mom and dad.
In a few months time the little one starts talking to them in its own words. It responds to almost every one who talks to it. Parents and other elders believe that this is the right time to teach the baby to talk. Firstly you don’t need to teach the child, you only have to help him to speak. Secondly this is not the right time.
Now the question is what is the right time for the baby to learn to talk and how can you help him. Normally the child responds to your voice and activities from the time it is born. Soon the baby gets its name. Now suppose the name is Anna and you always address her as Anna then soon she knows that if you say Anna you are talking to her. You must talk to her when ever she cries or whenever you are handling it addressing yourself as mom. For example mom is coming, mom is changing your nappy, mom is feeding you. Mom will just take you in her arms and so on. Anna will soon start to understand that mom means you. Similarly you can say here is dad, dad is looking at you,dad wants to take you in his arms and so on. In this way Anna will start recognizing her mom and dad.
Now the time comes when she tries to speak in her own language. When she wants you she tries to say mom, the word is not clear but is close.as time passes she watches you speak and finally manages to speak mom clearly in a natural manner.
This is the process that helps the baby to speak dad and all other words. You do not need to really teach the child to talk you only have to help the child to learn. Never force the baby to speak
This is the initial stage of speaking. Gradually the child starts using words to express itself and parents usually understand what the child is trying to say. During this period the words spoken by the infant are not quite clear. At this do not force it to pronounce the word correctly rather repeat the word correctly allowing the baby to watch you. This will be a game that you play with your baby. Both of you will enjoy and the little one will learn to speak easily.
There are many other steps that can be taken to help the baby to talk;
1 Allow the same age group children to interact with the little one.
2 Let the child listen to nursery rhymes.
3 Talk to the child as much as you can.
The more the child hears the quicker it learns to speak.
